Origin of
Rattan Chair products
Rattan is a
group of palms from the tribus of Calameae that has a climbing habitus,
especially in Calamus, Daemonorops, and Oncocalamus. While Puak Calameae itself
consists of about six hundred members. With its spreading regions in the
tropical parts of Africa, Asia and Australasia.
While Into this

Pigafetta, and traditionally not classified as rattan.
The rattan rod
itself is usually slim with a diameter between 2-5cm, as well as long segments,
not hollow, and most of it is protected by long, hard, sharp spines. Thorns
themselves serve as a means of self-defense of herbivores, as well as help
climbing, because rattan is not equipped with tendrils. One rattan can reach a
length of hundreds of meters (wah-wah ..) The rattan rod removes water if it is

Most of the
rattan comes from forests in Malesia, such as Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi
and Nusa Tenggara. Indonesia supplies 70% of the world's rattan needs. While
the rest of the market is filled by Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka and
Bangladesh.
The growth of
rattan is very fast and relatively easy to harvest and transfotation. This can
be considered to help preserve forests, because people prefer to harvest rattan
rather than wood.
Even so the
common rattan used in the industry is not much. Some of the most commonly
traded are just like Manau, Batang, Tohiti, Mandola, Tabu-Tabu, Suti, Sega,
Symbol, Blubuk, Java, Bitter, Kubu, Track, Slimit, Worm, Semambu, and Pulut.
Before becoming
a rattan chair, rattan has several processes: After cleansed from the thorny
midrib, the rattan is to go through the stages for preservation and protected

processing rattan raw materials are:
1. Cooking with
kerosene for medium / large rattan
2. Smoking with
sulfur for small rattan.
Furthermore,

rattan tables, Peel (Peel) / Sanded Peel, polished / semi-polished, made core,
fitrit or star core. The center of the largest handicraft and rattan furniture
industry in Indonesia is located in Cirebon.
